Yunnan Tuocha Tea

These tea leaves are a special variety of tea grown in the Yunnan province of China, called Camillia sinensis assamica. The variety "assamica" might have a familiar ring to it: Assam is the name of the northeastern state in India that produces the famous Assam Tea, which is the basis for tea blends such as English Breakfast and Earl Grey that taste wonderful with milk. Long before these tea plants were transplanted from China to India's state of Assam, they had been cultivated for their leaves as a healthy beverage. Steeping it results in a dark, full-bodied cup with delicious earthy notes.
